Ham & Dijon Grilled Cheese with Apple Butter

I have always been a fan of almost anything with Swiss cheese. So naturally, I picked this sandwich off of a menu at a food truck one time a few years back and haven't stopped thinking about it since then. I knew right then and there that it was going to become a staple in my grilled cheese index. What? You don't have a grilled cheese index?
A few years ago, we started to eat grilled cheese sandwiches every Tuesday night, and for about a year, our neighbors joined us for it. In fact, our group text thread is still titled "Grilled Cheese Tuesday Club" to this day. Yeah, we don't mess around! And over the many weeks that we ate sandwiches together, I made over 22 different kinds. (I totally kept track in my Notes app on my phone. #fooddork) We did everything from cheeseburger grilled cheese sandwiches, to fresh tomato and basil, to bacon with goat cheese and chopped dates.
All of them were good, but this one right here was always one of my favorites. Ham and Swiss is always an amazing combo; then you add in the tangy dijon mustard on one side of the bread and the sweet, flavorful apple butter on the other side and man, it is SO good.
The only thing that could make this sandwich even better is Pepperidge Farm Farmhouse® Sweet Hawaiian Bread... in slices ya'll. I've always loved the softness and sweetness of Hawaiian bread, but they're usually rolls. So having that same amazing flavor in slices, FOR SANDWICHES, specifically grilled cheese sandwiches, is well... worthy of ALL CAPS! Plus, this one doesn’t have any high fructose corn syrup or artificial flavors, or colors from artificial sources. 🙌🏽You can find a location that sells this amazing bread by clicking here!
Ham & Dijon Grilled Cheese with Apple Butter
Ingredients:
(For 1 sandwich)
2 slices of Pepperidge Farm Farmhouse® Sweet Hawaiian Bread
3 slices of honey ham
2-3 slices of Swiss cheese
1 tbsp. dijon mustard
1 tbsp. apple butter (the spiced kind)
Butter, room temperature
Directions:
Butter the outside of your Farmhouse Sweet Hawaiian. Spread apple butter inside one slice and the dijon mustard on the inside of the other slice.
Over medium heat, place the bread, buttered side down, into the pan. Add Swiss cheese, then pile on the ham, and add another slice of cheese on top to help hold it all together. Top with the remaining piece of bread. Once the bottom side of the sandwich is a nice golden brown, flip sandwich and lower the heat a little bit to allow more time for the sandwich to melt inside. Once golden brown on the second side, remove from heat and serve immediately.
For a little extra fun, serve with a side of apple butter as a dipping sauce!
