I love Instagram, don’t get me wrong, but I think my preferred method of sharing is through our blog. 🙌🏼 I enjoy being able to write more, share more images and give more information (i.e where things are from, like this amazing rug from @lorenacanalsrugs ). With that being said, I wanted to tell you guys about my most recent post that is now live on our blog, which is all about creating a place for June to play in her room. ⁣

One thing I love, as a mom, is to hear her play by herself but I was finding myself getting frustrated that she wasn’t doing it longer. Then I realized, the layout of her room didn’t make any sense for playing, “Duh Mom!”😂. So, I rearranged things and now she spends hours up there making up stories which are usually very intense and involve lots of life-saving moments. It’s mid-February which statistically means that most of us have given up on our New Years resolutions. We’ve stopped our diet, our gym shoes are gathering dust, or we just spent $300 shopping yesterday when our budget was $20.⁣

In our house, we’ve been talking about things that will make a good day, a good afternoon, but realistically, just a good next 15 minutes. We aren’t talking about the entire year ahead of us, or the 15 lbs we want to lose. We are talking about breaking everything down to smaller moments, or “our next right thing” as @emilypfreeman puts it so eloquently on her podcast every week. ⁣

Just this morning I asked Brooke, “What will make today a success?”. Just today.⁣
⁣
In 2016, I resolved to stop drinking soda, which seemed like a daunting task because soda is terrific and I used to drink it almost every day. However, I wanted to stop for various reasons.⁣
⁣
So, when 2017 kicked off, I didn’t think I of the 364 days to go, I thought of the next meal I had to get through without, a soda. I just kept saying to myself, “I can get through this meal without a soda!” Were there moments that I wanted it more than anything?? You know it! Especially with a burger and fries. However, I didn’t think about all the burgers I would have soda-less for the year, I only thought about skipping a soda with the burger that was in front of me.⁣

And bit by bit, meal by meal, I made it through 2017 without a drop of soda. So I figured I might as well do it in 2018, and now again in 2019. Honestly, I barely even think about soda anymore.⁣

You can’t lose 15 lbs without losing the first pound, and you can’t budget for the year if you can’t stick to a budget for a day. If you gave up on your resolution already, start again! Don’t think of the rest of the year you have in front of you or even all of today. Just think of the next 15 minutes. Break down your goal into the smallest increment you can and get through that.⁣
⁣
Once you get used to those small increments, then you can start planning a little further. Take it one small step at a time and who knows, in two years maybe you won’t even really think about what was once such a challenge.

Just kidding! Really it's this: "I was looking to create better photos of my t-shirts, so I reached out to a "cute" photographer-friend on Facebook, aka Brooke. We planned our first photoshoot, then started dating, and were married 11 months later. Ten Years (in May!), and two kids later, we're still working side by side every day and plan to continue doing just that as we raise our girls, follow Jesus, and extend grace and joy to each other on a daily basis. 💕

I've learned something about myself over the last year or so: cooking, for me, is best when I view it as an intentional way of slowing down. When I see it as an act of carving out a little space in my day to think, work with my hands, and nurture my family, I enjoy it 10x more. ❤️ But this past year, with business decisions looming, and a new baby that was needing so much of my time, I found myself unable to put together any sort of meal that made sense, and therefore frustrated that I wasn't "enjoying my time in the kitchen anymore."
