Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. - Hebrews 4:16
A highlight of my childhood summer days was when the local fire truck rolled onto our street to flush out the hydrants. No other childhood memory recalls more joy (other than, maybe, the ding-ding-dinging of the ice cream truck’s bell every night at 6:00pm). In the heat of the sticky, humid summer afternoons, we ran through the gushing hydrants, carefree and shrieking with laughter.
I don’t think they do that anymore. Pending lawsuits and all, I guess. The closest I get these days is to step off my porch in a summer rain and relish in the tiny drops of warm summer water gently pelting my skin. I breathe deeply as the rain hits the earth and everything smells fresh and new and washed clean.
I’m thankful that God promises to do some raining too. He’s gracious, and I have confidence when I ask Him for help. Just like that refreshing summer rain pouring down from the sky, His mercy will never fail. He forgives me, He helps me, and He works it out for my good. Do you need His mercy today? Could you use a little Jesus rain to refresh the dry places? Step up and ask. He wants good things for you.
